Aquaculture serves as an auspicious protein source for the human consumption. To cultivate aquatic organism proficiently, the prepared feed should have eminence protein constituents. Feed for aquatic animals contain raw fish as a main product e.g fish oil and fishmeal that gained from the whole fish and its remains. The fish silage is feasible for using in feed after their bioconversion or transformation. Feed for aquatic animals includes raw fish as a primary ingredient, such as fish oil and fishmeal obtained from whole fish and their by-products. Fish silage can be used in feed after undergoing bioconversion or processing. This impending ingredient is the main cost effective component of the whole feed of fish. In this review we discuss the alternative protein sources in the fish feed based on plant or animal, that can reduce the budget and improved the fish efficacy, effective for the sustainability of aquaculture for low to high scale farming. Production of aquaculture inflates worldwide to meet the demand of world for protein (fish, seafood etc.). Hence, investigation on low cost substitute protein sources of fishmeal was prolific, provide good information that could be helpful for the small fish farmers.
